Hi to All.

My wife, Sharon, & I completed on our house purchase in Nerignac back in December.

For now this is a maison secondaire, habitable but no heating, and with potential to expand into the haylofts upstairs.
Over the next few years we'll firstly just enjoy the location & get to know the neighbours, and secondly do the building work the house deserves (a very English outlook I know).  The overall intention being to end our days in France, lazily, supping vin rouge in a location & house that we've made our own.

A dream of many I'm sure, just working towards the reality !!

Now wasting my lunch hour on the web & preparing to jump in the car for a Friday night crossing to Caen.  Managed to stumble across this forum looking for a potential carpenter - have a photo of Sebastien Cousin's sign board on our neighbours driveway, and it brought me here.

And all this in response to my Sister & B-in-L who upped sticks & moved to Luchapt permanently last summer, bringing both of our retired mothers with them   Rolleyes
They seem to be enjoying it, and I've suggested they sign up to this forum.

Goodbye for now, here's hoping local knowledge can assist in the future.

Rgds
Matt
Hello Matt, welcome to Around Montmorillon.  wave

I don't know about the rest, but we started off thinking we have to get this done and that done. Then one day you think no sitting in the sunny garden drinking wine and eating cheese is much easier, 11 years later and our place is still habitable (though we do have heating)  Big Grin

Please feel free to start a thread about your escapades with the house and update as it goes, I for one enjoy following those types of stories.

Sebastien Cousin's work is good.  Thumb

Yes please do tell the rest of your family to join, we could do with a little waking up around here.  Rolleyes

Regards.

Fred.
Hi Matt, and welcome.
You're chosen a fine area - very laid back, not overrun with tourists like the coast and far fewer Brits than other parts of France!
Plenty to see and do and although this board is on the quiet side, it is a mine of information with me of people keen to help without any of the argumentative nonsense that seems to dog some of the other forums frequented by the British...

I hope you have a very tune here. Don't be in rush to get things done, much of the chan retire from adapting a French pace of life...
Looking forward to hearing more about your exploits,

Brian
Hi Matt and welcome to the forum. Look forward to hearing about your exploits bringing your place into the 21century ... Just sit back and contemplate first and sip some more of the wine.... The work can wait Five

Thanks Jimi, Brian & Fred !

Well we had a great time in the house 4 days over last weekend, got busy wallpaper stripping & moving furniture in.

Bit cold - paraffin heater not man enough, so will have to get some logs & take the cap off the chimney for next time ! And bonus being.. The water heater & shower worked, but the kitchen tap needs a new washer.

Lovely weather compared to Blighty, blue sky & (slightly) warmer. Even if it did rain in the mornings.

All in all a good first sleepover in our French house.
Now back on the 7.19 to Waterloo !!

Returning for 2 weeks via Le Mans 24hr in June. Should be sunnier then Thumb
If you're looking for new posts in this thread I have moved them here Hello from CarolineBB So please go and say hello.  Smile
