Around Montmorillon

A story with a happy ending. One of our cats developed a problem with his back leg during Saturday.
Conquering my fear of making phone calls in French, I rang three local practices and received a "we're closed" answerphone message. Two if them did go on to give an emergency number but when I called those they weren't answered.
However, within 5 minutes I received a call back from the vet in Montmorillon (the one in Rue Terrier Blanc, which I always think is a great address for a vet!)

He went to his surgery and we met him there about 20 minutes. A quick examination later the cat was diagnosed with a pulled muscle: "he jumped and landed badly" according to the vet!
An anti-inflammatory injection and pain killer plus  a week's worth of medicine were dispensed and we left the surgery with a happier cat  

So if any of you have pet problems out of office hours, give the Montmorillon surgery a call. I know we're not allowed to recommend vets on a public forum but if any of you would like clearer contact details please drop me a pm.

Good news Brian, glad your Cat is OK.  

Regarding not being allowed to recommend vets on a public forum, another member mentioned this once to me once but when I asked for more information none was forthcoming.

So as far as I'm concerned I see no problem with it, obviously I wouldn't let defamatory remarks about a vet on here but I see no reason not to mention the contact information. Besides Yell have no problem listing their details: https://www.yelp.com/writeareview/search...%2C+Vienne

Couldn't agree more Bhouse.

These vets have been wonderful to us - or more to the point our ageing Springer spaniel - for the past ten years.

Their 24 hour, seven days a week call out line has always worked and their service has been excellent. Good to hear from someone who has found the same.

I also have to highly recommend the vets on Rue Terrier Blanc. We brought our dog over with us in July and will definitely be using them again. 

I too can highly recommend this vet, they were so supportive when we had to say goodbye to our 19 year old cat and they have been wonderful with our rescue dog Bertie

Does anybody have experience of the worming procedure for dogs before returning to the UK, such as costs involved and recommended vets around Montmorillon (that would make a good name for a forum site methinks).
Any information would be much appreciated.

Hi, We have literally just arrived back in the UK in the last hour with our little dog, oh and the family   We just took our dog, for the second time to the vet on Rue Terrier Blanc for the tapeworm tablet. We took him for it last July too. 
Your dog has to have it between 1 and 5 days, I think, of you returning to the UK. It has to be at least 24 hours after having the tablet before you can leave. It just cost us 42 Euros for the tablet and the consoltation. We took him for his tablet on Thursday afternoon and left France on Saturday morning. 
I can highly recommend the Vet in Montmorillon. Both vets we have seen have been very helpful. 
Your dog has to be fit and well. The vet asked if our dog had had any sickness or diarrhoea, which he hadn't. You must make sure that the vet has written the date and time that the tablet was administered in your pet's passport. I read a story on the internet of a lady who said the vet hadn't written that in, so they were refused entry into the UK until it was verified by another vet. They had to book into a hotel and leave the next day, after finding a vet...nightmare situation. 
The vet checked our dog's microchip too this time, like they do when you leave the UK at pet passport control. Hope that's been of help to you. Good luck 

Just to add to that. Last July, when our dog had the tapeworm tablet, about 2 hours afterwards he was sick and shall we say had an upset stomach, just one bout and that was it. This week, when he had the tablet, he had no after effects at all. We were poised waiting for it to happen, but nothing. Happy days.
