Hello all,
I'm trying (for once) to be organised and thought that now might be a good time to stock up on wood for the Godin in plenty of time for winter.

I'm based near Adriers and would need the wood delivered. I'm after 2 cords of well-seasoned oak ideally.

I also need to get a flue liner checked and the chimney swept.

I'd be grateful for recommendations for suitable suppliers and artisans.
Thanks in advance,
Brian
May not be of much help to you, but I've seen a big place at Saint Savin as you go out on the left that looks like they specialise in wood for fires. Don't know prices but they have trucks so I would imagine delivery would be ok and it looks like it's cut to a nice size on pallets.

As for your chimney I don't know if this helps: Chimney sweeping

Fred.
Excellent - thanks Fred.
And I knew I should have done a search! The chimney cleaning question only occurred to me while I was asking about the wood!

Fred.

and here's their website https://www.bois-de-chauffage.net/les-fo...p#choixcom with prices for the wood including delivery. Not sure of pick up prices but would be cheaper.
Thanks for website link. The prices look reasonable but there seems to be no stock of well seasoned oak to my area. A friend is sending me a phone number of a highly recommended supplier who apparently does have suitabel wood - I'll give him a go and report back if he's good.

A quick update.

My friend only had a phone number for his timber supplier - Remy.
Although my French is good enough to deal with most things face-to-face I have a horror of making a phone call entirely in French, but on this occasion I Had no choice.

Remy spoke no English but in the subsequent conversation, I thought I ordered 2 steres of 3 year oak, cut to 40cm, for a price of €80 per stere, delivered but not stacked. He said he would drop it off when passing and took my phone number. That was over 2 weeks ago and I have heard nothing. I am beginning to think my phone conversation was not exactly what I thought it was...

Does anyone know where a timber supplier called Remy lives?
Does anyone have any useful hints for making successful phone calls in French???

Sorry cant help do you know where he was from? I could try putting it on https://twitter.com/AroundMontForum for you.

As for the phone, I know exactly what you mean. I can get by talking face to face but on the phone I just get totally lost, I don't have an answer for that either apart from use Email and Google Translate or better still get in your car and go an speak to them face to face. At least with the latter you can stay till you understand. Big Grin But that doesn't help in this case as you only had the number.
