We have seen lots of posters about to advertise
Montmorillon Carnivale on Sat 15 March.
Does anybody know what time it kicks off?
Also where is the best vantage point. We also
saw signs to say some streets will be closed off.
The lady at the tourist Info is lovely but
speaks only a little English and as we are
new comers with little French it's hard to get information.
Thanks Rosie
Ahh the joys of living in France.wave

You see a poster advertising an event and then realise it hasn't told you exactly where and at what time. YOU are meant to know these things.

Where the carnival starts I have no idea but we have watched it in the past as it wends its raucous way along boulevard de Strasbourg and then followed it to the end on the "fairgound" behind the eglise St Martial.

In case you're wondering boulevard de Strasbourg is the street with the Hotel de France, the macaroon shop and Credit Agricole among others.

I think it starts at about 2pm but don't quote me on that. Time, as a concept, is very fluid in France and something of a moveable feast.

If you're expecting Rio or Notting Hill then this ain't it. Instead, it's a rather nice, rustic and noisy affair culminating in a cirque or fair at the top end.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

Bonne chance and enjoy.Big Grin
Thanks Admiral, let's hope the sun keeps
Shining and we are sure it will be a lovely
day for all! Sounds like la commerce is the
best vantage place.

Life can be strange................

No sooner do I tell you our French chums don't actually like to put a time on anything than.............a flyer lands in the post box telling all and sundry that there are two parades, both departing at 1515hrs.

They both converge at the junction outside Le Commerce before making their way down boulevard de Strasbourg and thence onto the Place Marechal Leclerc - that's the main square in the centre of Monty - for a bit of a shindig.

I only hope the Commerce breaks with Saturday tradition and actually opens. Nothing worse than watching something like this feeling thoroughly parched....

Enjoy..Big Grin
Thanks Admiral we were intending to have a
Few beers whilst watching the parade so
will ask Michelle at Commerce if they will be open!
Just a short note on Carnivale Montmorillon who
would like to go next year!
We enjoyed the Carnivale from the great vantage
point of La Commerce Bar, the parade started around
3.15pm and came along from LeClerc and also down alongside
the La Commerce road. So merging right at the junction
in front of the river. The sun peeped out the music
was great and it was a colourful fun well
run event!
After enjoying a few beers at La Commerce
with lovely Michelle who is a wonderful English speaking
host we then wandered down to the square where
The parade ended with lots more music and food
tents serving BBQ sausages in yummy baguettes
and steak sandwiches, small rides for the little
ones, the bars were also open to sit outside and
enjoy the last of the sun and people watch.
All our friends agreed it was a really enjoyable
afternoon and we hope to go along next year!
