Hello we are very happy to have found your
Website! My partner Huw and I spent time in
Montmorillon a few months ago and enjoyed
it so much we have purchased a small property
to live in. We will be moving to Montmorillon in
February and look forward to learning all about
your beautiful town. We have limited French
but trying really hard to improve that! We are Australians
with UK Citizenship.
Best wishes
Rosie
Hello Rosie welcome to Around Montmorillon. wave

Well it certainly is a beautiful area and if you like the countryside this is the place to be. Regarding speaking limited French I think you will find as long as you try a bit you will get on just fine, I have found the French people around this area to be very friendly. You will also find they will be more willing to try English with you if you get stuck once you have tried a bit of their language.

I couldn't speak any when I came here and even now my French is basic but I get by, and once I got over trying to figure it all out and just be myself it just seemed to work for me. I still get stuck sometimes when they talk fast but like I say I get by. There are a few French language schools if you want to go that rout, but shop around or ask first as prices vary.

As for finding out more about the area or living here, just ask away on the forum. You will find us a friendly bunch and although a small group at the moment with people like you having an input, we can make Around Montmorillon a great source of local English speaking information.

Please don't hesitate to start your own thread telling us about your move here.

Regards.

Fred.
Thanks for the welcome Fred, we hope to
Meet many of the local people but it's really
nice to know there is a friendly group of people
willing to share ideas and assist in English!

We have our small house to move into but
For the first week we will need B and B or Gite
Accomodation while we arrange some furniture
Organise SIM cards and WiFi etc.
Can anybody recommend anywhere in the
town? We found some places prob closed
in February when we arrive.

We currently run a guest house in Vietnam so will
swap our bad Vietnamese for bad French.
Look forward to sharing in future on your
Forum!
Best wishes Rosie and Huw

La Brasserie has an ad here: https://aroundmontmorillon.com/showthread.php?tid=136 I've not used them myself, but it may be worth a try as you're both Around Montmorillon members Wink

We use Leclerc Mobile available from their supermarket, cheapest I've found and you don't loose your credit like most others, we have two on the "Formule MINI+" tarrif just €1.50 a month tariff. And I don't know if it's because both are with Leclerc but we don't pay for texts between the two. Website: https://www.leclercmobile.fr/

Thanks Fred La Brassiere looks lovely , their
B and B is closed in Feb but the apartment is available.
It sounds close to the station, could we walk into
Montmorillon from there? How long would it take to walk in?
We plan to hire a car, this trip in Feb we will be in Montmorillon for
Three months then back again in August for our
permanent stay.
Have heard about the car rentals from the supermarket. Have you heard
Of any others? We have a bike here so may look at having
One when we move over.
Will pass on all your info re wifi and phones to Huw.
Sorry for delay to respond , we run a guesthouse in Central Vietnam
and have had typhoons and storms left right and centre! Hopefully will be
calmer in Montmorillon.
Thanks again we will contact La Brassiere but might
be abit far to walk after a few glasses of red in town!
Best wishes Rosie and Huw

It's not far from the station to town, but as for walking it I'm not sure myself.

The Renault Garage does rentals, but the Leclerc supermarket is the cheapest. A basic Fiat Panda is €5 per day and an additional 12 Cts per Kilometre. They do hire others but I'm not sure of the pricing.

I take it you mean motorbike? there is a motorbike shop in Montmorillon, but you would get a better choice in Poitiers. Or check out www.leboncoin.fr

Been watching it on T.V, no typhoons here. Keep Safe. Thumb
Hiya Rosie,

Welcome on board the good ship.

I would guess La Brasserie is about one a half miles walk to the centre of Montmorillon. But if you're hiring a car no probs.....just make sure it's a LeClerc jobbie. At €5 a day for a Fiat Panda it's a bargain.Thumb

We are 3kms from the centre of town and luckily no steep hills. The station is close by, but I always transport them to and from the station.

I will look forward to hearing from you!

With the Leclerc SIM cards (or I guess any other for that matter) do you just buy a pre paid SIM, as in the UK, or do you have to provide ID & register etc etc?

Been a while since we got ours, but my wife can't remember having to show any ID to get it. She thinks it was €10 to buy, you put it in and she thinks it just activates itself. You need to make sure you keep enough for the monthly subscription and obviously have a phone that is not locked.

Not sure about the others but remember them being expensive if you don't use them often as you loose and unused credit, (things may have changed now though)

Have a look on their website https://www.leclercmobile.fr there may be something there that tells you if you need ID.

That's if they haven't blocked your IP Wink
